Bio
Character Information
Name: Rock Lee
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Canon: Naruto

Appearance: Rock Lee is a boy of.... Not to put too fine a point on it, eccentric tastes, which are heavily influenced by his mentor, Maito Gai. He has a mop of shining black hair cut into a neat bowl cut, and thick eyebrows, with round, gleaming black eyes to match; all this is set in a heart-shaped face that rarely is seen wearing an expression that isn’t determined and serious. Lee is a fast-growing boy, and still has quite a few years left in which to do it; regardless, right now he’s narrow-shouldered and long-limbed, standing at 5’8” with a trim, toned fighter’s physique. He weighs more than one might expect him to; despite his narrow frame, he’s built with pure muscle.

Lee's attire is based on his sensei's, which he prizes highly. The base outfit is a forest green spandex bodysuit, topped with a pine green flak vest with a red swirl pattern dead-center on the back—his bull’s-eye, as he thinks of it—and copious amounts of pockets on the front; beneath this is a read headband with a metal plate bearing Konoha's village symbol on it, tied around his waist like a belt. His hands and arms are bandaged carefully, (hiding the ever-present bruises and scrapes of training, as well as those injuries that developed into permanent scars) from knuckles to mid-forearm; he also sports a few rounds of bandages around his right thigh, to help secure the black pouch strapped onto it. As if he needed even more storage space, he also has another pouch, this one tan, just behind his left hip, and a sturdy navy blue backpack. To finish his outfit off, he also wears practical blue sandals, and poofy, orange, vertically striped leg warmers, which hide weights strapped to his calves that would be either inhuman or inhumane to force onto a normal person.

Personality: As most people notice immediately, Lee is quite the odd bird. He isn’t cool, calm, dignified, or reserved, like so many strive to be, nor does he snark at people, scold, or act superior, or be intentionally annoying and abrasive. Rather, he’s considered a weirdo and a dork. He’s an overly animated, enthusiastic, even spastic character, easily taken as comic relief with his overwhelming zeal, boundless energy, and happy-go-lucky tendencies. He’s extremely bright and friendly, overly earnest, extremely compassionate and kind-hearted, (even to animals or his own detriment) rather awkward, and somewhat lacking in the area of social skills. Rather than cautious or hesitant, Lee believes in himself and holds his abilities with a fair amount of confidence, brazenly charging forth and giving any endeavor every ounce of compassion he has. Stubborn as he is, if giving a problem his full 120% isn’t enough, he’ll pick himself up, dust himself off, and decide to work at it until he can give it 150% instead. As stubborn as he can be at times, his work ethic is second to none, and he’s a hard-bitten optimist with a deterministic outlook—clearly this world is the best possible one we could live in, because we’re here in it, and we’re both willing to and capable of making it the best one around for us, so why are we hanging around talking philosophy instead of rolling up our sleeves and getting started?

On the not-so flip side of things, Lee is also a young man of burning convictions and the highest moral fiber. Respectful, polite, honorable, and idealistic to a fault, Lee never holds grudges or treats people unfairly, and strikes always to do what’s right. He follows his dreams and principles at all costs, even his life, if need be. He can be amazingly clueless and naïve sometimes, believing in reverse psychology and not always using common sense; because of his tendency to believe the best of everyone, he can be easily fooled. Despite this, his dedication, passion, and hard working nature pay off as well; Lee has a sharp analytical mind, though it’s not always seen, and is surprisingly intelligent, knowledgeable, and strategic when he needs to be. He’s a determined, fiery, passionate character, overwhelmingly earnest and serious despite his sometimes silly antics; for all his appreciation of the power of youth, he can be surprisingly mature, with unwavering loyalty to who and what he holds dear to his heart, which he devotes himself to with a love deeper and fuller than many would care to express. Whether he hero-worships them, protects them, strives to best them, befriends them, or loves them to his dying day, Lee will see to it that the greater good is served, and is willing to give it all for his comrades.

All problems should be challenges and opportunities, all obstacles simply barriers to be broken through, and one should see the good in everything.... except when they can't. As fiercely as he tries to believe in himself and this philosophy, even Lee can't do it all the time. He loves his friends and he loves his dream, but sometimes it isn't enough--the kid never seems to catch a break, to the point where his luck is so bad, one almost wonders if he drunkenly rampaged through a mirror store, or set puppies on fire as a hobby in some former life. Lee can be a bitter, defeated, depressed person when the chips are down and everything looks completely hopeless, too drained in spirit to keep trying or looking on the bright side of things, begging for someone to help him and tell him what to do. At low points like these, his self-esteem and confidence are almost non-existent, and he needs someone to encourage and inspire and help him along, someone who can believe in him and let him believe in them. Perhaps he's a little selfish, deep down inside, still hurt by being alone and disliked and scorned--sometimes Lee's reasons for working so hard aren't to be a truly great ninja and follow his own nindo, but simply to be noticed, acknowledged, liked, respected, loved.... for who he is, and what he can do. Even so, he does mean well, and do his best for the others he so desperately wants the acknowledgement of.

Strengths/Abilities: Lee is far and away stronger, faster, more agile, more resilient, and more flexible than most normal people. His diligence and tireless optimism make him ideal for any task that requires endless plugging away at to make it a success, or things where being fatalistic would only sabotage the end result; he doesn’t let menial tasks, little details, or overwhelming odds distract him from keeping his eye on the prize and seeing the larger picture; this diligence and tireless work has also made him quite intelligent and insightful, though it doesn’t always show, with a keen analytical mind that is geared towards problem solving. He’s the sort to turn every problem into an opportunity, and though he might be weird, there’s no better friend you could ask for in a tight spot. He is most certainly a team player, and knows how to follow orders to a tee; he also has tremendous respect and sportsmanship, never holding a grudge, taking advantage of unfair circumstances, or behaving impolitely even to his greatest enemies. His enthusiasm and zeal makes him dedicated, loyal, and principled, and as steadfast as he is, it’s rare to see him ever back down.

As a ninja, he is capable of inhuman feats, though his underdeveloped chakra coils and inability to mold chakra render him capable of only using taijutsu, or physical combat techniques. Because he has focused solely on these, he has grown bewilderingly strong and fast, to the point where he can smash through boulders with his bare fists, and the unaided human eye has difficulty following him, even with heavy weights on that vastly lower his speed. Aside from these, his studies have also given him a fair, if unspecialized, knowledge of first aid, ninja supplies, techniques, strategy, and the like, with the more specialized training under Gai giving him an almost encyclopedic, instinctive knowledge of armed and unarmed combat--though he prefers unarmed by far, and even knows quite a few forbidden techniques, so classified because of the physical stress they place on the user's body.

For some reason, he happens to be predisposed towards a Drunken Fist style of fighting when the situation arises; he becomes extremely intoxicated after even tasting just a few drops of alcohol, and becomes much faster, stronger, and unpredictable, though he seldom remembers what happens, and loses his sense of judgment and restraint, rampaging without regards to property damage or friends alike. He also has learned how to open at least six of the Eight Celestial Gates, temporarily giving him overwhelming boosts in strength, speed, power, endurance, energy, healing, and overall physical capacity—at the risk of severely endangering his health, or even his very life.

Weaknesses: Lee is, quite bluntly, pretty damned weird. This makes social interaction with him potentially odd and uncomfortable for a fair amount of people, and puts them off of him; his strange, not-conventionally-attractive appearance doesn’t help matters in the slightest. His overly enthusiastic nature and other personality quirks make him sometimes difficult to get along with, and occasionally overbearing, though that is never the intent. Once he is set in his ideals or opinions, he also tends to be extremely resistant to change, becoming bullheaded even in the face of things which most sane people would give up upon being confronted with. In spite of his unwavering belief, he also happens to be clueless and naïve more often than not, somewhat gullible in personal matters and easily fooled.

His powers are also potential liabilities in and of themselves; his Drunken Fist style leaves him without clear, coherent thought and out of control; he tends to become drunkenly violent and rampage, having little to no memory of what happened after he recovers from his bout of drunkenness. His ability to open his Gates also puts extreme burdens on his health, going so far as to potentially kill him if he overuses this ability.

History: Born only a year before the Kyuubi attack on Konoha, Lee lost his parents at a relatively early age. He was enrolled in Ninja Academy at age six like all the other children who intended to pursue careers as ninjas, but was found to have a disability that, in normal society, would have gone completely unnoticed and unproblematic--his chakra coils were severely under-developed, leading to an inability to mold chakra outside of his body--thus preventing him from using ninjutsu or genjutsu. In spite of this, and his lackluster performance in taijutsu, Lee managed to graduate somehow through sheer grit alone, being dubbed "Mr. Spirited Loser" for his absolute lack of talent and refusal to give up because of it. He met Maito Gai once during his Academy years, only very briefly, as the man stopped to give him some badly-needed encouragement; soon enough, he met him again, this time as his new team's sensei. This team consisted of Hyuuga Neji, Tenten, and Rock Lee--respectively the number one rookie of his class who was reputed to be a genius, a kunoichi with a knack for weaponry..... and a no-talent, dead-last, loser, with no apparent ability or potential of any sort.In spite of this, he had made it his dream to prove that he could become an excellent ninja, despite his disability. Recognizing a bit of himself (and not just the eyebrows) and his own "loser" status during his youth in the boy, Gai promised to devote his life to training him and helping him to achieve his goal, sealing the promise with a Nice Guy Pose to elevate it to the status of an unbreakable vow, to be upheld unto even death itself.

The team trained together for a good year and a half, growing greatly in teamwork and skill; Lee developed from a no-account, talentless kid into a formidable taijutsu user and worthy opponent, as well as a spitting image of his sensei, Tenten became deadly accurate at ranged combat and proficient in a great variety of weapons, and Neji put his genius to work self-teaching himself the secrets of the Main House that had never been divulged to him. Neji and Lee also developed a fierce and perhaps slightly one-sided rivalry, as their ideologies clashed, something that distressed Gai even though he could do nothing about it. They entered the Chuunin Exams soon enough, attempting to hide their strength at first, though this was foiled when Lee held back Sasuke and one of the chuunin examiners from hurting each other. He proceeded to ask Sakura to be his girlfriend while promising to protect her until he died, (which was cruelly rejected) and asked to fight Sasuke to test himself before facing Neji. Naruto leapt in to fight him first, and was swiftly dispatched; in Sasuke's fight with Lee, the sharingan couldn't keep up with his movements, and Lee nearly used an Initial Lotus on him. This was stopped by Gai and his turtle summon, and Lee was punished for using such a dangerous technique without provocation, and for disrupting the chuunin exams, before sharing in a moment of sensei-student bonding. Lee and the rest of his team soon progressed smoothly through both the written test and the Forest of Death mission.

The preliminary rounds to the third part of the exam found Lee facing off against Gaara, forced to take increasingly desperate measures to up his speed and strength, including taking off his extraordinarily heavy leg weights, opening several chakra Gates, and using forbidden techniques. Soon, he is able to pierce Gaara's sand defenses, and is the first person to actually hurt Gaara--but still, it isn't enough. Exhausted and hurt from his self-damaging attacks to the point where he could barely move, a somewhat crazed Gaara maimed Lee to the point where it was doubtful he could ever work as a shinobi again. Gai rescued Lee before he could be killed outright, bewildering Gaara by his show of love and altruism, even though he was heartbroken for Lee's loss. He rescued Lee from Gaara again a month later in the hospital when Shikamaru and Naruto proved unable to, and brought the crippled boy to watch the final test of the Chuunin Exams with him; when the Sunagakure and Otogakure forces began their invasion; Lee was knocked out with most of the rest of the stadium.

Soon Tsunade was returned to Konoha and instated as the Godaime Hokage, and examined Lee, declaring that he needed a dangerous surgery that would give him back his capacity to be a shinobi, though the survival rate for such a delicate procedure was only 50% at best. After a tearful heart-to-heart, Gai convinced Lee to take the surgery, assuring him that it was only another obstacle that needed to be overcome by hard work--and that if by some chance it failed, he would commit suicide to die with him, as he had promised nearly two years ago that he would dedicate his life to teaching Lee. Fortunately for them both, the surgery was a success, and both survived the ordeal. Lee left the hospital soon after the surgery was completed, taking a bottle of sake with him instead of his medicine, and went to fight Kimimaro, a bone-weilding Sound ninja originally from Kirigakure, to allow Naruto to catch up to Sasuke and try to rescue him. The battle was fierce, as both were excellent taijutsu users, and Lee became drunk after drinking the sake, believing it was his medicine--this enabled him to use the Drunken Fist style he was naturally predisposed to, nearly evening the odds between them. Even so, Kimimaro almost killed him, until Gaara arrived to fight in his place. Even with Gaara's skills, he too was nearly killed, saved only by the fact that Kimimaro collapsed from an unknown, fatal illness mere seconds before striking the final blow.

Over the next three years and change, Lee and his team recovered, trained, and grew in strength and skill--and rank, as the entire team not only made the leap to chuunin, but Neji became a jounin in his own right.

When the Akatsuki kidnapped Gaara and killed him by extracting the bijuu within him, Lee and his team were sent to serve as back up for Naruto, Sakura, Chiyo, (a retired Sunagakure ninja) and Kakashi. Lee and his team were forced to face off with a body-double of Kisame with 30% of his chakra; Gai was soon forced to fight him alone, as the rest of his team was captured in water prisons, dividing Kisame's body-double's allotted chakra into quarters. It was a tense fight which Gai very nearly lost, but after both using his nunchaku and opening six of his eight Gates, he managed to defeat Kisame with a technique called Morning Peacock, in which he moved so quickly his fist was set ablaze through pure friction, air resistance, and speed. In the meantime, Neji broke free from his water prison and rescued Lee and Tenten, the latter of whom had nearly drowned. After discovering that this was not the real Kisame, they met up with Kakashi's team, who had to face off against a body-double of Itachi; Lee's team helped open the seal protecting the Akatsuki base, and consequently were forced to fight doubles of themselves while Naruto's team fought the Akatsuki and rescued Gaara's corpse. Gaara was revived by Chiyo sacrificing her life, and the Konoha ninjas were soon ready to go home; thanks to Kakashi being extremely weakened from his battle, Gai pulled him onto his back to carry him to Konoha, a feat which Neji flatly refused to allow Lee to duplicate with him, despite its obvious training merits.

Since then, Lee and his team have continued to train, grow, and improve, dedicated to helping their village and being the best ninjas they can be. Of course, neither of those goals helped when Lee woke up to find himself somewhere else entirely....
